Consultations relating to medical nutrition therapy (the management of medical conditions through dietary adaptations) can usually be claimed from your medical aid. We will claim from your medical aid on your behalf, but you remain responsible for the account. Card facilities are also available.
Individual in-person consultations
In addition to nutrition assessment and advice towards general health through the stage of a person’s life cycle, dietitians contribute to the prevention and management of medical conditions through medical nutrition therapy. This includes the prevention and management of chronic diseases of lifestyle such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol) and cancer, as well various other medical conditions summarised here.
Consultations are tailored to individual needs and circumstances and could include the following:
Initial consultation:
An initial consultation with one of our dietitians is usually scheduled for 1 hour and includes a detailed nutritional assessment. This includes consideration of lifestyle and eating habits, your medical history and any diagnostic test results available, as well as various anthropometric (body measurement) assessments and a review of your personal goals. Nutrition education will be provided according to the identified requirements and mutually agreed nutrition and lifestyle goals, targeted at empowering and supporting you to make any required adjustments.
Second consultation:
Your second consultation will usually be 30 minutes long and scheduled to take place shortly after the initial consultation. If required and desired, you will be presented with an individualised eating plan and dietary guidelines, with consideration of your medical history, lifestyle and personal nutrition goals. Nutrition education, support and guidance may also include meal and menu plans, food exchange lists and portion guidance, tips and ideas for snacks and how to make better food choices, as well as cooking and shopping advice and recipes.
Follow-up / monitoring consultations:
If required, further follow up consultations will be scheduled to guide and assist you with the implementation of the recommended lifestyle and dietary changes. Further anthropometric assessments may be performed during these consultations, food records and other lifestyle changes can be reviewed, potential challenges identified and addressed, and goals adjusted accordingly. The frequency of follow-up consultations is according to the individual client’s requirements and preferences, with an average duration of 20 minutes.
Consultations relating to medical nutrition therapy (the management of medical conditions through dietary adaptations) can usually be claimed from your medical aid. We will claim from your medical aid on your behalf, but you remain responsible for the account. Card facilities are also available.
Online (virtual) consultations
An initial virtual consultation usually takes 45 minutes and includes a nutrition screening and basic assessment with consideration of your diet history, medical history, self-reported anthropometric (body measurement) information, food and dietary preferences and personal goals. Nutrition education will be provided according to the identified requirements and mutually agreed nutrition and lifestyle goals.
Lactation consultation and support
Global infant feeding recommendations include the exclusive breastfeeding (no other food or drinks) of infants for the first six months, introduction of appropriate complementary foods from six months onwards, with continued breastfeeding up to two years and beyond.
The benefits of breastfeeding, to the infant, mother and society, are multiple and well recognised. With a special interest in infant and young child feeding, we strive to support mothers during their breastfeeding journey, starting during pregnancy, through identifying and addressing any challenges such as latching and attachment, nipple or breast pain, engorgement, thrush, assessing infant weight gain, the introduction of complementary foods and sustaining breastfeeding on return to work.
While breastfeeding is considered as natural and instinctive, it might not be second nature to you and you may experience difficulties along the way. We therefore offer expert advice and support to make your breastfeeding journey a pleasant and fulfilling one
A voucher for lactation counselling and support is the perfect gift for an expectant mother – contact us for more information.
Corporate wellness and nutrition education
We support corporate wellness events and activities and are available to present nutrition education at workplaces, corporate and other events. The nutritional status of employees could impact their work performance, while the work environments play a key role in health and nutrition choices. Reducing the risk of comorbidities can be regarded as an investment in your workforce.
Our services are tailored according to your needs and may include:
- Evidence based nutrition consulting for wellness programmes
- Health education towards the prevention and management of lifestyle related diseases
- Nutritional assessments
- Menu planning for workplace canteens
- Cooking demonstrations for healthy and affordable meals
- Understanding food labels
Genetic (DNA) tests for health and diet
Personalised nutrition involves consideration of the complex interaction between nutrients and genes in order to create tailored dietary recommendations according to an individual’s unique genetic profile. Integrating genetic testing, lifestyle and dietary assessment, we are able to provide you with personalised dietary and health advice. We offer genetic tests that will provide insight into your genetic makeup and how you can adapt your lifestyle, diet and environment to live your healthiest life.
